HARRIS HITS FOR CYCLE IN BOSOX BLOWOUT
Yanks Drop 14th of Last 15

BOSTON, June 26 (AP) -- Joe Harris hit for the cycle and scored three times as the Red Sox pummeled the New York Yankees 19-5 before 16,447 at Fenway Park.  It was the fourteenth loss in the last fifteen games for the reeling New Yorkers.

Harris flied out in his first plate appearance, but wasn't retired again by the Yankees.  With one out and Bill Wambsganss on second in the bottom of the third, Harris snapped a 1-1 by depositing his first home run of the year over the Green Monster.  It was the start of an eight-run Red Sox outburst that effectively put the game away.

Harris led off the fourth with a triple to deepest right-center field and then scored when Yankees shortstop Everett Scott booted Shano Collins' grounder.  The first three of Harris' plate appearances came against New York starter, and loser, Cliff Markle (0-2).

The Boston first baseman walked in the fifth off reliever George Pipgras and doubled in the sixth off Milt Gaston.

In his final plate appearance, in the seventh, Harris completed the cycle with a two-out single to right field, also off Gaston.  Harris is the first player in either league to hit for the cycle this season.

The loss saw the Yankees slip into the second division--fifth place--6 1/2 games behind the American League leading Detroit Tigers.  On June 10, New York was in first place, three games in front of their nearest pursuers.
