DODGERS' EXPLODE FOR 13-RUN 4TH; FURILLO HOMERS TWICE IN INNING
Campy's 5 Hits, Grand Slam, 6 RBIs Pace Bums

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 1 (AP) - The Brooklyn Dodgers erupted for 13 runs in the fourth inning en route to a 21-2 dismemberment of the Pittsburgh Pirates at Forbes Field.  The 21-run outburst is the largest for a National League team this season; the major league high to date is 23, by the New York Yankees in a victory over the St. Louis Browns on May 5.

Roy Campanella rapped out five hits, including a fifth inning grand slam, and drove in a season-high six runs.  Carl Furillo hit a pair of home runs, both in the epic fourth, and drove in five runs.  The Dodgers hit five home runs in all and every Brooklyn starter had at least one hit.

Dodgers starter Ralph Branca (11-3) was the beneficiary of all the offense and held the Pirates to just two runs in the complete game victory.

The Dodgers scored twice in the second inning--on a Campanella RBI double and Wayne Terwilliger's run-scoring single--and led 2-0 entering the fourth when the wheels came off for Pittsburgh starter Murry Dickson.  Brooklyn sent 16 men to the plate in the inning and every baserunner ultimately came around to score.  Eight of the runs scored after there were two outs with the bases empty.

With one out and the bases loaded, Branca aided his own cause with a two-run single.  Furillo followed with his first home run, a three-run clout and, one out later, Duke Snider hit a solo home run.  Andy Pafko's single ended Dickson's outing, but reliever Paul LaPalme simply heaped fuel on the fire, allowing the first six batters he faced to reach base and score, culminating with Furillo's second home run of the game.  Pee Wee Reese, who had made the second out, finally ended the carnage by fouling to second baseman Monte Bagsall to end the inning.

The Dodgers scored four more in the fifth, on Campanella's grand slam, and capped their effort with two more in the sixth on Pafko's two-run shot.  In all, Brooklyn batters homered five times, the top mark for the club in a single game this season.

It was the fourth straight win for Brooklyn; the Dodgers are now a season-best 36 games over .500.  Pittsburgh has dropped seven of its last eight contests.
